Gurmeet Matharu

I completed a Bachelors of Commerce in 2002, a Masters of Commerce in 2005 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications in 2003 from Kurukshetra University, India. Following this, I’ve worked as an Accountant in a Government organisation for six years and as a Manager (Accounts and Purchases) in private enterprise for two years.

However, my passion for studying abroad brought me to Southern Cross University where I completed my Masters by Research (Thesis title: ‘Factors influencing buying behaviour of organic food: An empirical study of young consumers in India’) in 2019. Now, I am undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy on the topic ‘Understanding the consumer behaviour towards plant-based foods: An application of capability, opportunity, motivation and behaviour (COM-B) model in an Australian context’.

I worked as a Research Assistant on several projects in different faculties and as a Casual Academic in the School of Business and Tourism of SCU. I am also an International student representative (SRC), member of Student communication committee, enthusiastic member of the SCU Enviro Club GC which satisfies my interest in the environment and meeting new friends from different cultures at our campus.

As a Secretary of the SCPA Committee and being an international student, I’m looking forward to bringing my experience for students of SCU, especially those from overseas. I hope this position allows me to solve their problems and contribute to their well-being.
